Resume Mastery Guide

Everything you need to know about formats, structures, and passing the ATS.

How to Make a Resume (Step-by-Step)

  1. Contact Info: Keep it clean. Name, Phone, Email, LinkedIn. No full address needed.
  2. Summary: A 2-3 sentence elevator pitch. Focus on achievements, not just duties.
  3. Experience: Reverse chronological order. Use 3-5 bullet points per job. Start with action verbs (e.g., "Led", "Built", "Increased").
  4. Education: Degree, School, Year. GPA only if above 3.5 or recent grad.
  5. Skills: Hard skills (Software, Languages) matter more than soft skills here.

Which Format Should You Use?

Chronological

Most common. Lists jobs by date.

Best for: Consistent career paths.

Functional

Focuses on skills over timeline.

Best for: Career changers or gaps.

Hybrid

Mixes both. Highlights skills then history.

Best for: Senior roles.

Passing the ATS (Applicant Tracking System)

  • Use standard headings (Experience, not 'My Journey').
  • Avoid graphics, columns, and tables in the main text body.
  • Use keywords from the job description.
  • Save as PDF (or DOCX), never PNG/JPG.
